erika queirozIn case you are in doubt on the use of certain words, if it is common to use them with certain lexical items (collocations) or the contexts in which they more commonly used, the American Corpus site is a great tool. There you can type the word you want to know more about and gain access to possibly hundreds of samples of where that word was used. The Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) has more than 400 million words gathered from spoken language, fiction, popular magazines, newspapers, and academic texts. This is a useful tool for the teacher, for instance, when trying to find contextual examples to explain the use of a certain word or the different meanings it can convey. Click here to check it out.
