brockfoxeduThis resource can be used by all students in grades 4 through 12. The resource contains information showing students how to utilize a variety of reading strategies. There are also links to book clubs and lists which students are encouraged to check out and participate in. While the resource is especially beneficial to students, teachers can also find the resource to be beneficial. There is information regarding specific reading strategies that focus on either vocabulary, comprehension, or writing. Further, there are examples which iterate which reading strategy works the best either before, during, or after reading. I can use this resource to support the learning in my classroom by implementing the strategies that it contains. For instance, if I want a before reading strategy, I could choose examples provided by the resource such as anticipation guide formats, concept sorts, first lines, Frayer model, etc. If I want a during reading strategy, I could choose to implement partner reading activities, prediction relays, reading guides, or reciprocal teaching. If I want an after reading strategy, I could choose to implement Question-Answer activities, exit slips, frame routines, etc.

blgentz2Teaching students to "read inferentially" helps them read more strategically. Inferential reading helps students make connections between their personal experiences and their comprehension of a text. Rather than stopping students during reading to comment on specific points, this strategy focuses on their thinking and how new information reshapes prior knowledge.
