With User-Mode Linux, you could be up and running with more RAM within a couple of seconds. We just have to change your UML's preferences and reboot the thing. Need more disk space? We simply expand your file system image and you can then use a file system re-sizer to expand the file system to fit the new file. No need to reboot, or mess around copying things to a new drive. Alternatively, we could simply build a new file system image, set it up as a physical volume on LVM and add it to your volume group. Instant storage space without rebooting.
