Crochet Collar Pattern

This is deceptively easy to make if you have basic crochet skills and can easily be finished in an evening.
This pattern uses 2 ply light cotton cord and a 3.5mm crochet hook. You will also need a small shank button. Finished circumference will be around 13 1/4". The pattern is easily adaptable for different sizes and yarns. The starting chain is a multiple of 4 plus 2, so if you want it to be larger or smaller add or subtract 4 stitches until the chain fits comfortably around your neck and then follow pattern starting at row 1.
Ch 68
row 1: Sk 1 ch, sc in next ch and across, ch 3, turn
row 2: *Sk 1 sc, 2 dc in next sc, sk next sc, 1 dc in next sc, continue from * across, ch 3 turn
row 3: *2 dc, ch1, 2 dc in space between 2 dc, dc in next dc, continue from * across, ch 3 turn
row 4: *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in ch space, dc in next dc, continue from * across, ch 3 turn
There are two options for the last row. If you want rounded edges as in the photos above, follow row 5 option A. If you want pointed edges, follow row 5 option B
row 5 option A: *8 dc in ch space, dc in next dc, continue from * across - do not turn
row 5 option B: *4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc in ch space, dc in next dc, continue from * across - do not turn
at the end of row 5, don't turn, sc down narrow edge of collar, 3 sc in corner, and sc across inner edge of collar to opposite corner, 3 sc in corner, sc down narrow edge and sl st into first dc. Break off and weave in ends.
Sew button to top corner. Attach yarn with sl st to opposite corner and chain approx 7 stitches (enough for button to go through snugly). Attach chain back to corner with a sl st, creating a loop. Fasten off, weave in ends.
If you try this and find any errors in the pattern, let me know so I can fix them! Also let me know if you need to see a photo demonstrating a particular step.

Elaine LoveThis is too cool. Don't know if I'd ever wear it, but hey, it's pretty.
