Walkway Over the Hudson organizers in the next year will oversee a $35.5 million refurbishment of the span, which is expected to be completed in time for celebrations of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage of discovery
"We're also talking to our town board about how we can increase density in our village, so we can have affordable housing and more people who can walk from the village to the walkway and the rail trail downtown,"
even before the visitors come, the project is expected to bring 323 construction and related jobs to Dutchess and Ulster counties, and that $11.5 million of the $35.5 million project cost will be spent in the two counties.
Though more visitors may mean additional logistical concerns, 59 percent of walkway users are expected to be Dutchess and Ulster county residents.
