• At my school, we use Moodle as our Learning Management System. In addition to delivering material through Moodle, students can upload documents, email teachers and classmates. Teachers can add resource links, create forums, quizzes and tests as well as create polls. All of the data is stored per student, so the information is sort of a traveling educational portfolio in a sense. This allows the teachers who use Moodle an internal environmental scan of their course. They can check for understanding through various resources. Currently, the Moodle site is locked down to just be visible to our students. I like this feature now as laws are still being created regarding teacher liability and internet usage.
• In addition to all of these resources, teachers can run reports to see who has accessed Moodle (and specifically what document and when). This has helped me in the past when students have explained that they don’t understand the test material – if they didn’t check the study guide their name would not appear in my report. Lauren LevisMoodle is a program for students and teachers to use a program for class. Students can post homework, have open chat, wikis, and even post lectures. Its a great tool for online group discussions.
