Jacquie RezeliI like to have a few math game websites in my back pocket. This one appears to be along the lines of cool math for kids, which seems to be a popular one in the schools. Something I really like about this website is that it has a video section with step by step instructions for solving different math problems. Very easy for a student to understand and and EA that finds math a little challenging as well.

Relevance – This site can be used for my classes to review their math skills. It would be an asset to my classroom because it also covers higher math levels such as algebra and geometry, which are topics that aren’t typically put into game format.
Authority – The site was created by a math teacher who was looking for more fun ways to engage her students when it came to teaching them mathematics.
Accuracy – The website is updated regularly. The site’s creator also responds to e-mail from teachers who use her site. Also, when the creator adds new games to the site, she tries to have the games cover topics that fellow teachers have requested.
Purpose – to find fun ways to enforce the math skills that I would be teaching my students and for them to see that math and numbers can be fun too.
This game would be an asset to my classroom and would be able to teach my students that math can be fun. It could be used in my classroom as a center, as extra credit option, or as a in class reward. -

Overview: Math Playground is an interactive website that has a bunch of different games for kids of all levels. It contains games, word problems, logic puzzles, and videos. The site was designed by a teacher who’s class needed a fun way to practice math facts. The site provides great opportunities for students to work on problem solving, math art to real world math.
Content: The games that are listed all have great educational value and are based on specific concepts. The second tab is word problems. These are organized by grade level and cover many different levels. Some of the games can be selected by certain topics, others are general and cover specific topics. The problems all have a “Need Help?” button that helps explain the question if students are lost. This site also contains logic problems that help to get kids thinking, a very important skill for kids. The most valuable tab is the math videos tab that helps explain different topics for kids who need it.
Design: The layout of this site is very inviting and open for students. It is easy to navigate and fun to use. The pictures are inviting and help to understand what the games are about. The only downfall is the ads that are on the top and bottom of the pages. These are easily mistaken as part of the site. Kids might have a hard time knowing what is part of the site and what is not. The colors are very nice and would draw the attention of students very easily. -
