Last.fm also envisions independent artists being able to tap into this new model to generate revenue, since they’ll be able to upload their music directly and get paid based on how popular it becomes. This makes Last.fm a major threat to MySpace, where indie artists can gain popularity but not get paid directly for providing the social network’s users with free streaming music.
