This seems a bit convoluted to me, I don't know about anyone else, but I just recently made the switch from PC to Mac. All I had to do since I let iTunes manage my music was copy my entire iTunes folder from the "My Music" folder on my PC to an external hard drive, than from there onto my Mac, which worked perfectly. Just my thoughts.

I just transferred my entire 45 gig library to my new macbook yesterday. My whole library was previously consolidated and run from an external drive connected to my pc. I kept the iTunes Library.itl file on the external as well and changed .
All I did was copy the music files to the Music folder on my mac (making sure the itunes music folder location was pointed to the right place), deleted the existing .itl file and deposited the .itl file from the external drive into the same folder. I didn't touch the XML file at all. Presto! My whole library showed up just how I'd left it, with ratings and playlists and playcounts and everything.
