LibriVox wants all books in the public domain to be available, for free, in audio format, on the internet. We ask volunteers to record chapters of books in the public domain, and release them into the public domain.

Excellent site that provides free, public domain audio books read by volunteers. They have over 100 books currently in their catalog and more added regularly. The audio is free of all copyright restrictions and can be listened to, copied, distributed, modified, etc. etc.

Files are provided in mp3 or ogg vorbis format and are hosted at the Internet Archive.
