Joan Kreieο Can be used in Automatic or Build Your Own Mode. In Automatic students are presented with visual model (circle or square) of a fraction and the fraction is placed on a 0 - 1 number line. The task is to create two equivalent models using the visual models. In the Build Your Own mode, rather than being presented with the original fraction, students create it.
ο Uses - Students could use the automatic mode to create and record equivalent fractions. Or, a teacher might create a more guided learning experience by having students use the Build Your Own mode and provided a sheet with starting fractions and a place to record equivalents.
ο Pros + Circle, square and number line models are all used
ο Cons - In automatic mode, fractions are given in random order, no progression of difficulty, and some have pretty high denominators. -

Kim ThorburnHere is a good game for equivalent fractions! This does take a little getting used to -- I shared this with my students early on in their study of equivalent fractions. I think this may be more useful as students have more knowledge with the subject -- would be confusing otherwise...

sam wicksThis resource provides children with an activity that is achievable for various levels of math ability. The core purpose of this website is similar to reading FD4, Bobis (2005) as they both provide activities that are designed to help children develop a deep understanding of equivalence. Equivalent fractions are a critical but often poorly misunderstood concept (Van De Walle, 2010), the simplicity shown in this website addresses this statement as it allows for guess and check strategies and a new fraction icon for children that may experience problems. For students only beginning to understand the concept of equivalent fractions the option of a square or circle may be useful as real life connections can be made.

Shelby Wiebelhausteaches kids how to understand fractions and math. They can choose to see the fractions in a square with bars or in a circle with pie slices. The fraction is shown numerically on a number line to show where the fraction belongs. You can create your own fractions or have the computer create their own.

diana inwoodThis site is great for teaching fractions. It allows students to play with visuals that show fractions. They can use a square and circle and use as many pieces as they want. It will also show you on the number graph. This is a great visual to use in the classroom.

Dakota BarloweThis tool allows students to create equivalent fractions by dividing and shading squares or circles, while checking their answers with a number line. This program is useful for students who are just beginning to work with equivalent fractions because it includes various representations of the fractions, which serve as scaffolds for students.
