  A fantastic website that features a relevant website each day - one that purports to contribute to the conversation concerning 'what IS this human network' that we all sense, but define loosely (if at all)?

  • Merlin Mann - 43Folders.com My network's comprised of smartalecks, dorks, hipsters, divas, preachers, itinerant musicians, flatulent geniuses, moms who loathe soccer, nice boys with hopeless goatees, a couple ladies in wigs, a red-haired grandma who likes ice cream and men who'll play piano for her, several people with way too many dogs, one nymphet who won't stop saying "hella," at least nine people called "Matt," one guy who's terrified I'm talking about him right now, the old man at the Chinese restaurant who finally smiled back at me after six years, and about a bajillion presumably warm bodies that I "know" exclusively by the contrails of their words, images, and ideas. They're a motley bunch, all in all, but they'll do for now. I like the idea of what Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. has called a "karass" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karass ) -- a group of people who, without even realizing it, are working together to do God's will. KVJ contrasts this with our many and more formal "granfalloons," or those less meaningful associations, such as which high school we went to or which office building our cube is in.  I'm happy to say that some of the best-liked and most trafficked nodes in my human network were installed by happy accident and had little to do with any of our granfalloons. Those are the connections you earn.
