anroberson06This tools helps learners analyze websites, take notes, and make sense of the research process. I will use this tool with my students as they learn about conducting high-quality research on the web. It provides a lot of support to students at all levels of abilities. The sidebar contains prompts and suggestions to help the student make sense of the information on the website. In addition, the tool also has text-to-speech functionality. Because its functionality seems to be limited in browsers other than Firefox, I would want to test it thoroughly as most of my students use Chrome or Safari to access the web.

Norah ConnollyAfter I signed up for the first CAST Website and discovered the array of other CAST Websites with their unique foci stemming from a focus on UDL, I was hooked. This Website allows students to develop and track their research steps in their own account to which the teacher also has access. This resource is pretty much a librarian's dream come true. The WorkLog allows students to identify and explain why they chose a source and how it fits into their research goals. The coaches (a la Book Builder) help guide students through the research process. I did notice that the WorkLog was citing google.com as a source's URL but I think that is a technical glitch that is easy to overcome. Overall, the concept and execution is wonderful, especially for students who struggle with organizational skills. It is so hard for some students to visualize the research process because it is multi-tiered and has so many different parts. Strategy Tutor is a tool that allows students to make surfing the Web a clear and tracked process.

Betsy HareThis is a place where students are able to research, store notes, and keep a work log. It appears that teachers are able to review and track students progress along the way. Since this is a web based tool both students and teachers are able to access their notes and research anywhere! One of the best features that this tool uses is called ClickSpeak. When a student enables ClickSpeak, the website they are look over is read aloud to them. This would be beneficial for students that struggle with content reading, staying focused, ELL students, etc.

I wish that I had known about this when my Child Development class was working on their birth defect and childhood illness research papers. The only problem that I see with this is that you have to use Firefox and I usually use Chrome or IE.

The site puts the student in the role of a researcher and asks multiple choice questions, guiding the student through the process of creating a research question. One of the most helpful parts of the process is that if a student chooses the incorrect answer, the strategy tutor explains why that choice would not be the best and suggests clues as to which direction would be the most helpful.
