  • 14 February 2008 Banja Luka _ A hardline Bosnian Serb non-governmental organisation says Republika Srpska should declare independence if the European Union recognises Kosovo as a sovereign country.

        The organisation, SPONA, said the parliament of the Republika Srpska, RS, the Bosnian Serb and smaller entity within Bosnia, should declare independence even without a holding a referendum.
    
    Their statement comes as Kosovo is widely anticipated to declare independence on February 17.
  • SPONA president, Branislav Dukic however, went further. He told media in the event that countries from the former Yugoslavia recognise Kosovo's independence, all powers which have been taken from the entity level to state level in Bosnia in recent years, should be returned to the entity level. This includes military, fiscal policy and other major responsibilities which have been centralised in order to improve efficiency of Bosnia’s complex administration.
  • Reacting to SPONA’s demands, RS Premier, Milorad Dodik, said in case of Kosovo's independence, “we should undertake any subsequent actions very carefully.”
