06 February 2008 Only two months after one of Bosnia’s worst post-war political crises appeared to have been resolved, a new clash over long-delayed police reforms threatens to halt the country’s EU integration.
Leaders of Bosnia’s six governing parties clashed repeatedly at a meeting in the southern town of Siroki Brijeg where they had gathered to discuss the continuation of constitutional reforms. Instead of progress, Saturday’s discussions ended in an all-out quarrel, which continued before TV cameras after the meeting.
The new political crisis has put on hold the long-drawn out constitutional negotiations; may jeopardize Bosnia’s signing of a crucial Stabilization and Association Agreement, SAA, with the EU; and could even trigger early elections.
