Cherry blossom viewing is a national pastime in Japan and the Emperor's Palace moat at this time of year is a fairyland scene of soft pink and white flowers.
The area has been planted for maximum effect, so that every tree seems to be covered in sakura, or cherry blossoms, forming a canopy over the paths surrounding the palace.
