Briefly, these are Biella’s eight attributes. A scholarly work must:
1. be articulated within or in response to an established
intellectual paradigm
2. adhere to standards of clarity and argument
3. be comprised of standard, cross-referenced and partially
redundant sections
4. allow rapid, non-linear access to all parts
5. allow users to spend time in recursive study of any part
6. allow users to take unlimited notes
7. allow authors to make unlimited footnotes
8. allow authors to make unlimited bibliographic references
