A cached version of Umberto Eco's 1995 article (from the NYRB) listing the fourteen components of "eternal Fascism." These include, inter alia, traditionalism and anti-modernism; irrationalism and contempt for cutlure and critical thought; a cult of action and of masculinity; a belief in the inevitability and universality of violent struggle (often in an apocalyptic form); a paranoid obsession with "the plot"; and a pervasive sense of being besieged, humiliated, and frustrated.
