Download ‘Clip to OneNote’ for Firefox 3 and Microsoft OneNote 2007

firefox-onenote-2007

Clip To OneNote is a free Firefox add-on that lets you send complete web pages or clip snippets from Firefox to OneNote with a simple right click (see screenshot).

Though the Clip To OneNote extension was written for Microsoft OneNote 2003 and Firefox 1.5, it still works perfect with the newer versions of Firefox (2, 3) and OneNote 2007 but installation is a bit tricky.

Here’s how to install the Clip To OneNote extension in Firefox 3:

firefox-extension-install 1. Type about:config in your Firefox Address bar and click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.

2. Right-click and select New -> Boolean. Give a name extensions.checkCompatibility and set the value as false.

3. Create another new boolean pair with the name as extensions.checkUpdateSecurity and value as false.

4. Restart Firefox and install clipnote.xpi – if Firefox shows a working, click Allow Access.

Updated: The above steps are not required – get this updated Send to OneNote for Firefox 3

5. Go Tools -> Add-ons and open the Option dialog for Clip to OneNote. Browse for the folder that contains your OneNote.exe file. Click OK and you are done.

Though the above workaround makes OneNote compatible with Firefox 3, it’s time that Microsoft OneNote team releases an official add-on considering that we have so many good Web Clipping Tools in the market especially Evernote that even provides a Web Clipper for Firefox. Thanks Patrick and Gina.

Excellent! Can’t wait to try it out.

Trying to install on 3.0b5 and getting the following error message

“”Clip to OneNote” will not be installed because it does not provide secure updates”

I have configured the config file as directed here is the entry
“extensions.checkUpdateSecurity ;false”

Any insights, thanks, I would love to use the tool

Too !!

I just installed it to Firefoxe 3 RC1, and it works thanks!!

Is there an extension for Opera?

Hi,
I also received same error message. But then I re-did each step (ie reinstalled.) This time when I got a message: “Add-on update security checking is disabled. You may be compromised by updates,” I did not ‘Enable’ it!
And I could successfully install the addon :)

To avoid the secure update error and to avoid the need to mess w/ the about:config stuff, I downloaded clipnote.xpi to my machine and popped it open with 7zip ( link . I right clicked on install.rdf and selected edit. In the resulting editor, I made two changes:

1. Changed maxVersion to 3 like this:

3.0.*

2. Commented out updateURL like this:

<!– link –>

Then I closed the text editor, 7zip asked me if I wanted to update the archive, and I did. Then, I dragged the xpi file from my hard drive (in Windows Explorer) to Firefox. It asked me if I wanted to install the extension, I did, and then I restarted the browser.

I didn’t uninstall the old, incompatible extension before doing any of this. The upgrade process worked fine and the old settings were preserved.

HTH!

Cute. Let’s try that again.

Travis, thanks for that fix. Works perfectly!

Someone (maybe the OneNote team) should write an official (and updated) version of this plugin.

Spencer, thanks for taking the time to update the plugin. Works great again.

Travis,
Thanks for the link it worked perfectly. I am once again a happy bunny. I missed this add-in sooo much. Thanks Again

I found the answer to my question (regarding OneNote and the Opera browser) on my.opera.com. Search under “OneNote”.

After a search on the Mozilla site I have found
an updated version of the OneNote addon that is compatible with Firefox 3
